Party this weekend

August 24, 2006 at 5:12 pm (Bottled Beer, beer, corona, moving, party)

So, this weekend,to celebrate my big move, I am going to throw a house-warming/open house party, and I will obviously be serving the only drink worthy of drinking on hot summer nights.  Corona light has long been my favorite beer, and I won’t listen to you if you tell me it’s weeny beer.  It’s amazing when it’s really cold, crisp, and if you are like me, you could be a walking advertisement for the stuff, in my amazingly trendy Corona shirt.  So, if you are in the area, give me a ring, and I’ll save you a beer :)

new apartment

August 21, 2006 at 8:06 pm (spider man, super heroes, wallpaper)

So, I just moved into a new apartment, and I decided to follow through with my long-time love of super heroes, and get some spiderman wallpaper to cover up our bad news paint jobs.  It looks better than I could have hoped, and my friends love it.

crazy!

August 19, 2006 at 4:18 pm (happy bunny, junior hig, junior high girls)

So, I was in Bosnia over the summer doing some humanitarian work, and I was very surprised to see how Westernized certain aspects of their lives were.  Their  clothes were so  immodest, it but Southern California to shame, but I was most surprised to see that  pop culture stuff like happy bunny  stuff  had somehow permeated into their clothing! Seeing junior high girls wearing Happy Bunny t-shirts is apparently a universal bad attitude statement-ha!

honor the military

August 18, 2006 at 1:06 am (military, military life, moving)

Call me old fashioned, but I think we should support the military more as a country.  I hate how Vietnam Vets are so often mistreated, as if they had any control over what the government was fighting about.  I guess I may be naive, but anyways, I found these military rings, and I thought they were pretty cool.  The cool thing is how you can make them custom.  I recently met some military kids.  I used to think that military kids got the shaft, moving all over, but in my old age, I think it would be incredible awesome to get to live all over the world, and when you miss American stuff, just stay on the base-it’s a little America!

sick

August 13, 2006 at 5:17 pm (getting sick, moving)

I’m not feeling so hot today.  I woke up, got ready for the day, sat down to read for a few minutes, and promptly fell asleep for an hour.  Very out of character for me, and I have continued to feel worse as the day goes on.  I sure hope I’m not getting the flu or something-I have to start working again and finish moving into my apartment tomorrow!!

Untapped treasure

August 11, 2006 at 4:03 pm (moving, my travels)

I spent some time in Covington, KY yesterday, and decided that it is an untapped treasure! There is this great little square in the middle of town, complete with fountain, old English Pubs, and plenty of tattoo and piercing shops. The atmosphere is great, and I can’t believe I haven’t spent more time there! Check out some photos HERE.

In other news, my move is coming slowly but surely and my entire body is soooo sore from walking heavy boxes up and down stairs!  I can’t wait to be completely moved in!

movin’ on up

August 10, 2006 at 4:00 pm (my travels, travel)

So, I have lived so far in Texas, California, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, spent long periods of time overseas, and now I”m moving to Kentucky.  Luckily, it’s not a hick town, in fact it’s a thriving, growing area and I’m really looking forward to living in such an urban neighborhood.  The river is close enough to walk to, and a close-by bike trail is calling my name!  I don’t think I”m going to bother to change my official residency though, as I only signed a 10 month lease, and I’m just not sure that I’ll be there longer than that.  I have spotted several coffee shops and ice cream stores that I plan on becoming a regular at, and I can’t wait to have all my furniture up those awful stairs.  We have a glorious old 100 year old building, and it is absolutely incredible.  Hooray!

Michigan

August 8, 2006 at 6:26 pm (Uncategorized)

I just got back from a short trip to Kristi Lake in Michigan and it was a really pleasant surprise!  The whole “cottage life” thing is a mystery to me.  My family definitely has the mentality of “well…we already did that…why would we want to do it again?” so, we never go to the same place over and over.  But, it was definitely an eye opener as people have invested their yearly vacation money into speed boats, paddle boats, pontoon boats, etc.  It was really fun, and I was amazed to discover my friends could water ski.  Water sports are like a world that I have never lived in, due to spending so much time in the midwest, and Texas!

first blog post

August 2, 2006 at 10:38 pm (Naturey stuff, my travels, travel, waterfall)

Well, this is my first post on this new blog. There’s always so much pressure to come up with something really good to write about. I just got back from a summer in Bosnia, and I was excited to read THIS article upon my return home. Bosnia and Croatia have all this untapped incredible beauty. I feel blessed beyond measure to have seen it! If you ever get a chance to go to Croatia, you have to go to Plitvice National Park. It is so filled with beauty and more waterfalls than I could have ever fathomed. It seriously puts to shame any water falls I have seen in America. The water is so clear up close, but an incredible blue green when you look out over the lakes.
